Le Ouïghouristan

Il existe dans le Nord-Ouest de l’immense Chine un pays inconnu des Occidentaux et de la plupart des Chinois eux-mêmes, où sévit depuis plus de 50 ans une oppression digne de celle qui tient sous la botte chinoise le Tibet ou, sous la botte indienne, le Cachemire. Un pays où on peut être condamné à 20 ans de prison pour avoir traduit dans la langue locale la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme ! Ce pays, grand comme trois fois la France ou quatre fois la Californie, a divers noms. D’abord son nom officiel : Région autonome du Xinjiang ouïghour. Puis son nom militant : Turkestan oriental. On peut aussi l’appeler Ouïghouristan, c’est-à-dire pays des Ouïghours.

Uighuristan

In the northwest of this immense country lies a land unknown to westerners and to the majority of the Chinese themselves. For over 50 years this region has experienced oppression as severe as that suffered by Tibet under the Chinese boot, and that to which the Indian government subjects Kashmir. For example, you can be sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for having translated the Declaration of Human Rights into the local language! Four times the size of California and three times the size of France, the region’s official name is Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. Its militant name is Eastern Turkestan, but it is also known as Uighuristan, land of the Uighurs.
