Madagascar, l’île essentielle

Des lambeaux de forêt primaire abritent des plantes dinosaures de 120 millions d’années, les plus vieilles familles de plantes et fleur au monde. Madagascar est une terre exceptionnelle, un vivier biologique, une arche de Noé entre l’Afrique et l’Asie qui rêve de cueillir les fruits de la biodiversité. Plantes médicinales et aromatiques constituent « l’or vert » de l’île-continent. Mais ce patrimoine est fragile et menacé. D’ouest en Est, du canal du Mozambique à l’océan Indien, d’une île à l’autre, de Nosy Be à Sainte-Marie, quelques enragés de la nature préservent et développent la biodiversité malgache, chacun à leur manière.

Fragments of primary forest are still home to the oldest families of flowering plants in the world, veritable dinosaurs of the plant world some 120 million years of age. Madagascar is an exceptional island, a biological breeding ground, a Noé Ark situated between Africa and Asia that has set its sights on reaping the rewards of biodiversity. Medicinal and aromatic plants are the « green gold » of this huge island, yet they remain a fragile and endangered heritage. From west to east, from the Mozambique Canal to the Indian Ocean, from Nosy Be to Sainte-Marie, a handful of pioneering spirits are working to preserve and develop the island’s biodiversity, each in his own way.
